Every semester the Ahmanson Lab supports faculty who integrate digital exhibits or multimedia research projects into their USC courses using Scalar. Scalar is an open source authoring and publishing platform, supported by USC Libraries, Dornsife, and the School of Cinematic Arts, and used by faculty and students in college and university courses worldwide to create born-digital, media-rich research projects and exhibitions.
Priority is given to projects that make use of USC Libraries’ Digital Collections, offering students imaginative ways to engage, analyze or visualize primary materials. Examples of such projects developed with faculty and students in past semesters can be seen below. See here for a wider selection of Scalar projects for which the Ahmanson Lab has provided support.
Successful applicants will receive robust support from the Ahmanson Lab. Dedicated Lab personnel will be assigned to each course to train students and/or faculty in Scalar and to provide semester-long support with project design, development, and implementation. Faculty may also have access to other library resources, including subject area specialists.
The deadline to apply is August 16th for the Fall semester and Jan. 6th, for the Spring semester. Faculty will be notified as to whether they will receive support within a week of each deadline.
