This semester the polymathic book club is pleased to feature the recently released book by journalist-essayist Lynell George, A Handful of Earth, A Handful of Sky: The World of Octavia E. Butler. Through her indefatigable research and intimate writing, Lynell George offers us a "blueprint for a creative life from the perspective of award-winning science-fiction writer and “MacArthur Genius” Octavia E. Butler. It is a collection of ideas about how to look, listen, breathe—how to be in the world." Lynell George, an L.A. based journalist and essayist, has had a long career in L.A. journalism as staff writer for both the Los Angeles Times and L.A. Weekly -- focusing on social issues, human behavior, visual arts, music and literature.

All members will receive a hard copy or kindle version of the book and we will hold two club meetings over the semester, culminating with a third discussion with the author, Lynell George!
