The Ahmanson Lab is offering support to faculty who wish to integrate Digital Exhibits or Multimedia Research Projects into a spring 2021 course.
As many USC faculty prepare to teach remotely again this spring, and in particular, to envision new practices for online learning and engagement, the Ahmanson Lab, a part of the Sidney Harman Academy for Polymathic Study at USC Libraries, will continue its program to support faculty using Scalar in their courses. Scalar is an open source authoring and publishing platform, supported by USC Libraries, Dornsife, and the School of Cinematic Arts, and used by faculty and students in college and university courses worldwide to create born-digital, media-rich research projects and exhibitions.
Priority will be given to projects that make use of USC Libraries’ Digital Collections, offering students imaginative ways to engage, analyze or visualize primary materials. Examples of such projects developed with faculty and students in Fall 2020 can be seen below. See here for a wider selection of Scalar projects for which the Ahmanson Lab has provided support.
Successful applicants will receive robust support from the Ahmanson Lab. Dedicated Lab personnel will be assigned to each course to train students and/or faculty in Scalar and to provide semester-long support with project design, development, and implementation. Faculty may also have access to other library resources, including subject area specialists.
