Polymathic Making Week

Join us for a Week of Polymathic Making at the Ahmanson Lab

All workshops will be held at the Ahmanson Lab located on the third floor of Leavey Library (LVL 301).

Tuesday 1/23 6pm - 7pm
3D PRINTING FOR RAPID PROTOTYPING

This workshop will provide participants with a brief overview 3D printing, including the ways in which the new technology has revolutionized manufacturing and digital labor in the past two decades. Utilizing the Ahmanson Lab’s 3D printer, staff will then introduce participants to the tools, software, and workflows required to create 3D printable assets.
 


Wednesday 1/24 6pm - 7pm
CREATIVE CODE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS

Algorithms will likely govern the visual aesthetic of the 21st century. This workshop will introduce participants to groundbreaking algorithmic art and the software and coding tools behind it. Participants will then have the opportunity, under the direction of Ahmanson Lab staff, to code, play and experiment with their own generative art algorithms. Please bring a laptop to participate in this workshop.
 


Tuesday 1/30 6pm - 7pm
SENSORS, CIRCUITS, AND MICROCONTROLLERS

Cheap programmable microcontrollers have given rise to sweeping changes in everything from manufacturing and entrepreneurship to DIY and hacker cultures. Come to this third and final workshop in our series and learn about the functions and applications of common microcontrollers and assemble and program your own mini-robot. Please bring a laptop to participate in this workshop.
