William Deverell

William Deverell is a professor of history specializing in the history of California and the American West. He serves as Director of the multidisciplinary Institute of California and the West. His scholarship is a testament to his polymathic mind and reflects a willingness to synthesize multiple methodologies, ranging from an excavation of the historical memory of Angelinos to his work on the environmental history of Los Angeles. He has generously shared these insights in online articles and documentary films, even acting as executive producer of “Whitewashed Adobe,” a documentary film on the historical memory of Los Angeles’ Mexican heritage.
